Littlest Hero Zachary

Meet Zachary.
And his family.
They are ALL heroes.

I had the ultimate pleasure in meeting my first Littlest Heroes family last weekend.

I was contacted a few weeks ago about photographing this little boy, 5 1/2 year old Zachary, who is battling and brave like no other little boy I know.   Zachary was diagnosed with leukemia three years ago and underwent extensive treatments & chemotherapy for two years.  In January of 2010 he had a relapse of his leukemia after being off treatments for only 7 months and is now awaiting a bone marrow transplant next week.

During the week, most weeks anyway, Zachary and his mom live at Boston Children's Hospital while his Dad and little brother Liam are at home in southern New Hampshire.

This week Zachary and his Mom are back at home for a few days before returning to Boston to prepare for the transplant.  A new and big battle ahead.  I met with them on a sunny, blue skies Sunday morning.

We did some photos inside but the boys were too excited to get out and enjoy the (chilly) sunshine and show me their little stream behind the house, their scooters and swings.

We had a fun time chasing the boys and watching them enjoy all things outdoor -- and all things BOY, which included throwing rocks into the stream and rolling down their hill!

Both Zachary and Liam are busy and energetic little boys - they are brothers and friends - and so obviously make their Mom & Dad smile and as proud as can be.

My last shot of the morning.
Such an extraordinary family.

Zachary, YOU are a hero.
No doubt about it.

It was my humble pleasure to meet you and your family.
I will be thinking about you in the coming weeks ... and for a long time to come.
My best thoughts and wishes are with you all.

Newborn and Family Portraits

Julie & Peter, Cameron & New Baby Colston
North Kingstown, RI
March 17, 2010

Welcome to the world "Baby O"!

You might remember this great, fun family from the beginning of the year when I did Julie's maternity photos ... well, she did all the hard work and Little Colston arrives a few weeks ago and was ready for his first photo shoot at just over 2 weeks old.

How sweet is he?!

And big brother Cameron was ALL SMILES for me.
He was so cute and so very proud of his new little brother.
And totally hammed it up for the camera!

Sweet, sweet baby boy.
Congratulations, Julie & Peter!
There will be more pictures to come.
Enjoy your preview!
Thank you for having me be a part and capture this so very special time in your family.

Anthony's PREVIEW!!!

Anthony is a Freshman in college and a Drama Major.
He needed head shots to add to his resumes.
Anthony came to me prepared and ready for the camera.
He had several outfits ready and had some great ideas for what he was looking for in his head shots.
It was a great experience to also set up my in-home studio too.

We had fun and lots of laughs!
I think Anthony might have learned a few new jokes as well  ;)

Thanks Anthony & Kerrie (his mom)!
I look forward to editing the rest of our shoot for you to see!

Maternity & Family Portraits
Providence, RI

Some preview pictures for Jen & Steve!  :)
It was a gorgeous morning for Jen & Steve's photos last weekend ... and their sunny living room made for a perfect location to set up for the photo session!

Jen and Steve's two little girls were as cute as can be and with generous bribes of goldfish and their favorite show, we were able to show off their smiles and sweetness.

 All smiles!

 Sweet Sisters

 And baby makes FIVE ...
or six if you count their pup, Buddy!

Little Dylan and Buddy wanted in on the maternity photo shoot, too!

Congratulations, Jen & Steve!!
Thank you for having me capture these special moments of your family.

Littlest Heroes Project

I was so exited when I opened my inbox this morning to find that I was accepted by the Littlest Heroes Project to be a local photographer for Rhode Island!

I feel very honored to be a part of this fantastic cause.

From the Littlest Heroes website:
The Littlest Heroes Project is a non-profit based organization founded in January 2008 by Felicia Reinhard, made up of professional photographers nationwide that provide free photo sessions to our nations Littlest Heroes. Through the power of photography we are giving back and taking a stand for these children who sometimes feel forgotten because of their illnesses. We are here to let them know that they are heroes to many, and to share their inspirational stories and photos with the world.

And I have yet to forget the day I spent photographing the Helping Hands Healing Hearts picnic in Rhode Island last July.  (YouTube video links on the bottom right side with photos by RitzyPics).  I have become friends with many of those incredible and inspiring families as well as photographed several families and children afflicted with CDH.

It feels good, really good, to give back.

So excited!!!

My traveling road show --- otherwise known as the photo session in your own home -- just got a little sweeter and more exciting today!

This week I bit the bullet and finally ordered a proper backdrop frame set up, bigger backdrops in black and white, and some lighting.   I placed the order not even 48 hours ago and they were at my door this morning.

I felt like a kid at Christmas and opened up the boxes as fast as I could.

I put up the frame in less than 10 minutes and I am so impressed and SO excited to use it for a maternity photo shoot tomorrow morning in Providence.

The lighting equipment isn't in yet, but I will figure that out as soon as it is delivered.

YAY! for RitzyPics!

Email or contact me today for information about setting up a photo shoot in your own home.  Choices of black or white backdrops all within the ease & comfort of your own space!

Check back in soon for SPRING SPECIALS coming your way!

New Baby Props!

I have been keeping my eye out for newborn and baby props and perhaps have become (mildly) obsessed with etsy.com.  I love to scan through this site for amazing, handmade baby gear to use for baby photo shoots.

Here are a few of my recent purchases ... in addition to the portable backdrops & frame and lighting system I bought this week.  As the weather is still not ideal to be outside for photo sessions, I have decided to have a more complete show to take on the road -- to your house -- and to set up a studio within my home.

:) Amy

 How cute are these hats?!
Size 6-12 months for boy or girl.

I have more hats and beanies being made as I type for newborns!

I can't wait to use this newborn baby cocoon!

And not to leave the older girls or the pregnant mommas out ...
a pretty orange fabric to drape around and some flowers.
